Introduction:
Raj GhatThe mortal remains of mahatma Gandhi were cremated on this spot on the west bank of the river Yamuna on the evening of January 31, 1948. A simple open platform inscribed with the Mahatma's last words, 'Hey Ram' (Oh God) is set in a garden with fountains and a variety of exotic trees. 4 km away from Janpath to the N-East of Feroz Shah near Delhi Gate at Ring Rd on the bank of Jamuna situated Rajghat. Jawaharlal Nehru Rd also ends opp. Mahatma Gandhi's last rites was performed here.

Ordinary people, VIPs, foreign tourists all come here at Rajghat to pay their homage to him. On every Friday (the day of his death) a prayer is being held. Except Monday, a regular feature of projecting Gandhi philosophy in picture, sculpture and photos from 10-00 to 17-00 is being performed at Rajghat. Besides, there is Gandhi Memorial Museum projecting his life and the philosophy of Sarvodaya Movement in film from 9-30 to 17-30 except Thursday and on Sunday at 16-00 in Hindi and 17-00 in English. Two museums dedicated to Gandhi are situated nearby. The Gandhi Memorial Museum is just across the road. It houses many belongings of Gandhi and photographs from his life.

Gandhi Smriti Museum is housed in the Birla House at Tees January Marg, where Mahatma spent his last days and was shot down by Godse. The beautiful Zinat-ul Masjid or the Most Beautiful of Mosques towers over Raj Ghat. It is rarely visited by the tourists. Some of the prominent names include the name of the British Queen Elizabeth II, Ho Chi Minh, Gough Whitman the former Australian Prime Minister and Dwight Eisenhower the President of USA.
